Phyllis Brodie Gordon Sopwith, served on the crew as timekeeper. Vanderbilt's wife, Gertrude or "Gertie," was a member of the crew of the
Rainbow. It was the first time two women had competed against each other in an America's Cup race. Vanderbilt's boat went on to win all twenty-nine of its races in 1937.
