Quarstein\, director emeritus of the USS Monitor Center\n\n\nJoin us for a virtual lecture with author and historian John V. Quarstein\, director emeritus of the USSMonitorCenter. Quarstein will give a presentation on ironclads built during and after the Civil War that were successful on a different level.\n \nAbout the presentation:\nThe success of USSMonitor对工会在汉普顿道路有一个相当大的影响n naval shipbuilding. Turreted monitors became the rage\, and 40 were built during and immediately after the end of hostilities. Nevertheless\, there were other ironclad types built in East Coast shipyards that achieved levels of success. Various designs were evident in USS New Ironsides\, Galena\, Dunderberg\, Stevens Battery (Naugatuck)\, Keokuk\, and Spuyten Devil (Stromboli). Although many of these ships never made it into active service or were considered failures\, they remain a tribute to Northern industrial power and ingenuity.\n\n\n\nCivil War Lecture: Coastal Ironclads other than Monitors\nSeptember 10\, 2021 • 12 p.m. (ET)\n \n\nImage credit: USS New Ironsides.
